SOTO-USA's the UPDATE

The monthly member communication from the Home Office

Dr. Robert D. Klingensmith, Executive Director

March  2003

What is the UPDATE?

The UPDATE will serve as the monthly communication with SOTO-USA members of timely events and news from around the organization.   If you are aware of something important that we should make known to everyone please forward this information to the office.

Change in Journal Subscription

You may have noticed it has been a long time since the last Journal of Neuromusculaoskeletal  Systems arrived on your desk.  It has become apparent that JNMS is ceasing publication.  The journal is a member benefit and we have managed to secure an agreement with the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine which will serve as the membership journal.  New members and renewing members since December have been subscribed and should receive their first issue very soon if you haven't already.

Associate Needed / Practice for sale?

We receive at least a call a week asking about opportunities.  Let us know if there are positions available out there.  I will keep a file and pass along the information

What's happening in 2003

This will be a year full of incredible action packed events.  The first of our two annual events, the HOT (Hands On Training) Conference, will be a cooperative event with BioRESEARCH, the largest functional dental education group in the world.   The Clinical Symposium will host the stage for the world's most renowned cranial experts.  Our featured guest for this years Symposium will be John Upledger, DO.  With him will be Dr. George Goodheart, Dr. Jon Howat, Dr. Marc Pick and many others from a variety of disciplines.

The regional seminar schedule is taking shape and at present we have ten dates set around the country with more being planned.  See the list of events for a seminar close to you.  We will across the course of the year cover all the 7 seminar topics which are the required basis for the two certifications.

Last year we had 19 regional seminars at 7 different locations.  This has produced an incredible number of additional doctors around the country who have  SOT skills.  We can now refer to them with confidence when our patients ask for help for friends and family members.

Watch the Web Site

As changes and updates to the schedule of events and other information become available the web site is the first place we go to get the word out.  The web pages change almost daily with additional information or advisory of a new seminar.

Be sure to check the site frequently to keep abreast of the latest in what is happening.  Many times brochures about a regional seminar will arrive several weeks after the posting on the web site.

Dr. Marc Pick Seminars

Dr. Pick will have a series of four seminars in the Los Angeles area.  This is an impressive series of SOT seminars and will offer a complete and comprehensive look at neurology like you've never seen before, as well as the categories, occipital fiber analysis and the accessible sutures of the cranial vault.  For complete information about these and other great things from Dr. Pick check out this web site:

Information on the Rise

We have a number of articles in the review or rewrite phase and hope to see them published in several different peer reviewed journals this year.

SOT Hits the RAC

We all have something of which to be proud.  SOT will have three related poster presentations at the RAC Conference this year.

Specific congratulations are in order for authors Dale Thompson, Mary Unger-Boyd, Stephanie Rasmussen, Vincent Esposito and Carmine Esposito.  At this conference are two poster  presentations which use MRI for pre and post evaluations to show the effectiveness of SOT pelvic blocks for treatment of disc herniations.

The titles of the presentations are as follows:

Chiropractic and Sacro Occipital Technique Treatment's Effect on the Lumbosacral Spine and Discs:  Three Case Studies with pre and Post MRIs:  Charles L. Blum, DC, Vincent Esposito, DC, Carmine Esposito, DC

Correlation of Lateral Pelvic Sway to Variances of Pain along the Inguinal Ligaments: A Pilot Study:  Dale M. Thompson, DC, Rudolf P. Vrugtman, MBS, Kent M. Johnson, DC, Shannon K. Diels, DC, Mary Unger-Boyd, DC

Treatment of a lumbar disc herniation utilizing Sacro Occipital Chiropractic Technique: Mark T. Pfefer, MS, DC, Stephanie Rasmussen, DC, Nathan Uhl, Stephan Cooper

Efforts such as this are increasing the understanding of and respect for SOT within our profession.

Givers Gain

This is the credo of a referral organization having chapters around the country.  It is quite an interesting axiom and one that requires initiative and faith  on the part of the giver to make anything happen.

I believe we all work from this premise in varying degrees.  Most management consultant experts offer more ethereal advice such as going into your office each day with an open and willing position to be of service in any way possible.  This is referred to as concepting and is an unavoidable part of every day by those who practice it.

While charged with the mission of preserving and promoting SOT, SOTO-USA is first and foremost in support of preserving and promoting Chiropractic.  And  we, like the profession, need support from  the givers who share the passion to see that chiropractic and the practice of SOT not only survive but thrive.

SOTO-USA offers the finest in post graduate education, professional and lay public educational materials.  We promote and conduct research as it relates to the understanding and advancement of the Sacro Occipital Technique.

SOTO-USA is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization and can establish many options for charitable donations, which are tax deductible.

Donations may be made specific to a purpose such as research, education or the general fund.  For information on how you can be counted among the givers contact the SOTO-USA office today.
